BIO
A luminous presence onstage, violinist Maggie Gould Wilson is known for her unique blend of virtuosity and passion, both in performance venues around the world and in communities where music becomes a tool for social change. Originally from South Carolina, she is currently based in New York City.
Maggie has played in leading festivals, orchestras, and chamber groups across the Americas and Europe, and has had the privilege of performing classically in concert halls including the Concertgebouw, Royal Albert Hall at the BBC Proms, Palacio de Belles Artes, Carnegie Hall, and Lincoln Center.
Maggie led the violin performance for the 2019 Met Gala in collaboration with Baz Luhrmann. She performed in the 2018 Grammys alongside Lady Gaga and Patti Lupone, and has recently collaborated with Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Hugh Jackman, Andrea Bocelli, Twenty One Pilots, Kesha, Halsey, Hans Zimmer, and Elvis Costello, among many others. She regularly appears alongside artists on The Late Show with Colbert, Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers, Live with Kelly and Ryan, and Good Morning America.
Her recent recordings include the orchestral scores for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Joker, Gemini Man, and The Greatest Showman.
She performed with the orchestra for two seasons of America’s Got Talent, and is currently a substitute violinist in the Broadway pit of Hamilton: An American Musical, & Juliet, and Parade. Other Broadway performances include Dear Evan Hansen and Rocktopia.
Passionate about teaching, Maggie was awarded a Global Leaders Fellowship with the Orchestra of the Americas. Through the fellowship, she coached youth orchestra members throughout underserved communities in Central America and in New Orleans within the Make Music NOLA program. She spent five months teaching violin in Belize and was crucial in developing the country’s first National Youth Orchestra.
An enthusiastic and joyful teacher, Maggie currently holds a studio of fifteen private violin students, ranging from ages 3 to 50. She is the founder of Bow & Heart, a NYC Suzuki-based group class program that serves as a collective for young violinists and their teachers.
Maggie received her Bachelor of Music from Northwestern University in Chicago and studied with Gerardo Ribeiro. She holds a Masters in Arts Management and Entrepreneurship from The New School. When she isn’t performing or teaching, she enjoys cooking for family and friends, attending pilates or barre classes, exploring outdoors, and spending time with her husband, twin daughters, and dog.
